Terrazzo Acoustical Membrane

Occasionally projects we work on will have need for certain acoustical requirements, whether by a client or acoustical consultant. There are many different acoustical membranes across the architectural market but few are compatible with terrazzo. Often they require topping the acoustical membrane with a cementitious overlay or concrete, which adds to the overall flooring thickness and weight load on the building. Further complicating the matter, you now have products from multiple manufacturers which complicates the warranty should there be an issue.

Terroxy Resin Systems Acoustical Membrane was engineered specifically to be used in conjunction with epoxy terrazzo. This is a contractor friendly trowel applied acoustical membrane, that allows the owner to have a fully warranted system, without adding significant cost, weight of thickness. Terroxy Acoustical membrane uses the a flexible binder in conjunction with recycled rubber aggregate. Its simply troweled to the substrate at 1/8" thickness and then the terrazzo can be placed directly on top the acoustical membrane. Other acoustical roll or mat products are difficult to get to lay flat so utilizing a poured acoustical membrane is more efficient installation.

At the standard 1/8" thickness the STC rating is 62 and the IIC rating is 59. These levels can be enhanced by pouring a thicker membrane up to 1/2" thickness.

The other nice thing about the Terroxy Acoustical Membrane is it also acts as a full coverage crack membrane so you get both crack and acoustical performance in one application.

Terroxy Acoustical Membrane has been successfully installed on hundreds of thousands of square feet of terrazzo.
