Epoxy Terrazzo Cross Section Detail

Thin-set epoxy terrazzo flooring has a total finished thickness of 3/8" and is composed to three main components: a binder resin, aggregates and divider strips. Other system components include a moisture-mitigation system, primer and crack membrane.

The binder resin offers exceptional compressive, tensile and flexural strength. The resin is greenguard gold certified with no VOC so it will not affect indoor air quality during or after construction. The epoxy resin is colored just like paint. Using light or dark base material that is then pigmented accordingly. The resin sets the tone for the color of the sample and can be matched to any paint color. The binder represents approximately 30% of the by weight and is also available in a Red List Free formula.

The remaining 70% of the terrazzo is composed of crushed aggregate or chips. There is a wide variety of aggregate options such as marble, granite, recycled glass, porcelain or metal. Offering a wide variety of color options. Aggregate is also available in a variety of different sizes.

Divider strips offer both form and function. They are used to create the form to retain the poured terrazzo mix. Aesthetically, dividers serve as the skeleton to the terrazzo flooring design, offering designers the ability to create any design or pattern. The thickness of the terrazzo strips may be varied to compliment the flooring design. Strips are also offered in different materials, most commonly aluminum as well as zinc, brass or plastic. Types of Terrazzo: Thin Set Epoxy Terraz

Terrazzo is like a chameleon it can have many different aesthetics. Traditional terrazzo contains aggregate sizes that vary from 1/8" to 3/8" diameter. Micro terrazzo contains a very fine aggregate that is approx 1/16" diameter. It is more expensive do to the meticulous labor involved. Venetian terrazzo uses large aggregate sizes that vary from 1/2" - 1-1/4" in diameter. It is also a premium terrazzo as it must be poured thicker5/8" min to accomodate the larger stones. Palladiana terrazzo uses fractured pieces of natural stone. These can be varied and spaced per the designers preference. It is also a premium terrazzo system because of the extra labor for setting the fractured stones.

Terrazzo truly offers an unlimited color palette. The epoxy resin can be matched to any paint color. Designers can then compliment the resin color with the desired selection of aggregate. The sizing of the chips can also be customized. Please let us know if you don't find what you are looking for we will be happy to create custom samples.
